On June 14, the world’s largest wind power test platform was officially commissioned, and the first turbine at Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group’s Binhai Site was unveiled during the ceremony in Binhai, Jiangsu.
Aligned with China’s national strategy, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. (Wind Power Group) has maintained a forward-looking approach, accelerating the construction of this world-leading wind power test platform.
Six Key Capabilities Behind the World’s Largest Wind Power Test Platform
Large Testing Capacity
Boasts a drive capacity of 50 MVA and a testing capacity exceeding 40 MW.
Comprehensive Technology Routes
Covers direct drive, semi-direct drive, double-fed, and squirrel-cage models.
Diverse Testing Types
Supports gearbox, generator, drivetrain, and converter tests.
Flexible Test Positions
Supports tests at two positions simultaneously.
Robust Functionality
Features full power loading, grid adaptability, HIL simulation, and MDOF loading.
Large Platform Scale
Spanning approximately 3,000 square meters, the platform supports prototype assembly and R&D testing.
Addressing the challenges of increased turbine sizes, deep-sea deployment, frontier technology, and pushing design boundaries, this newly commissioned wind power test platform directly targets industry pain points and customer needs. It optimizes and enhances the R&D testing of key components for new products across all technology routes while allowing robustness testing, ensuring comprehensive acquisition of electrical and mechanical performance data, and providing real and objective insights to support the development of new technologies and products, thereby enhancing product performance. It also strengthens the closed-loop verification capability of product design, clarifies performance limits, and identifies and manages potential risks.
The ceremony also unveiled the first turbine for Wind Power Group’s Binhai Site, marking significant progress in the group’s efforts to help Binhai County build a zero-carbon industrial ecosystem.
In recent years, Binhai, as a key part of the Yancheng Energy Base, has been piloting the development of a new energy supply system, accelerating the development of the core area of the zero-carbon industrial park, exploring practical paths for green electricity traceability, and promoting high-end, intelligent, and green development of the energy base.
